June 2015: The IEDA board gave preliminary approval for more than $9.5 million in funding and invited the City to submit a full application.May 2015: City officials and partners, including the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, presented the project to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) board.March 2015: City officials submitted a pre-application requesting $12 million in funding from the Iowa Economic Development Authority's Reinvestment District program for the project.The creation of the Xtream Arena is the first step towards more than $190 million of new developments in the Iowa River Landing. They make this facility a sought after and worthwhile investment. The Xtream Arena is a one-of-a-kind facility in the Midwest to bring in new athletic competitions and tournaments, provide a venue for certain University of Iowa Athletic sports, and alleviate tight scheduling in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Johnson County Historical Society and the Antique Car Museums have new facilities in the lower level of the Arena facility along with additional mixed-use retail. In addition to the Arena, there are many other functions in the facility including GreenState Family Fieldhouse, which is large enough for five basketball courts. The facility has the flexibility to host a number of athletic events and tournaments, from wrestling and basketball to indoor football and soccer, in addition to concerts, comedians, and special events such as graduation ceremonies. The Arena is home to the University of Iowa Women’s volleyball team. A single full-size sheet of ice supports the demands of an ECHL Hockey team, University of Iowa Women’s Club Hockey Team, and youth hockey clubs. Xtream Arena is a multi-purpose facility. Outdoor tennis and pickleball courts are available at Penn Meadows Park.(In the Iowa River Landing District on the corner of E 9th Street and E 2nd Avenue). Our team maintains fields at Penn Meadows, Koser and Quail Ridge parks which can be rented for tournaments, practices and more. Room (The North Liberty Library has meetings rooms available for organizations that meet its Terms of Use. Simply complete a meeting space request form and a staff member will be in touch with your shortly. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis, and a Facility Use Agreement must be completed along with a deposit to reserve a room. These rooms are great to hold birthday parties, showers, meetings and special events. Kitchen access is available in conjunction with a meeting room. We offer rooms with capacities of 20, 40, 55, 70, 140 and 400 people, with movable dividers in the Gerdin Conference Center to offer flexibility. Request a Reservation Indoor & Outdoor Pool The Recreation Department has uses the gymnasiums at North Bend Elementary and Buford Garner Elementary during the evenings and on weekends. The Jones Gym is open to the public as much as possible, while Roberts Gym is used for programs and rentals. Both gyms feature permanent bleachers, great for rentals and leagues of all kinds. Meeting rooms, gyms, pools, park shelters, green space and ballfields are all available to rent by the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
